Ones to Watch: Frontiers
This is a new segment that I like to call: 'Ones to Watch'. This is basically where I'm going to write about bands that I think are massively underrated or that you need to look out for because I think that they're going to be huge in the future.
Frontiers is a 3 piece band made up of brothers Guy, Philip and Simon Dumas who were all born and raised in Gibraltar. The first time I saw these guys perform was last November at Manchester Sound Control when they supported Lawson on tour. I thought they were pretty damn awesome and really stood their own as a support act. Fast forward 11 months and I went to see Lawson again, this time in London, for a one off tour date at Islington Academy. I watched one of their support acts in awe as they worked the crowd and sang some amazing song. I then met them afterwards and suddenly they seemed very familiar to me. As you can all guess, turns out that Frontiers supported Lawson again and it took me a while to put two and two together even though I felt the same excitement watching them perform.
All 3 brothers play their own roles in the band - it's a band of equal importance which you don't see a lot anymore. Although the youngest of the 3, Simon Dumas takes a nice spot in the middle of the stage on lead vocals and percussion. He has such a pure and raw voice that you don't hear that much nowadays and, when combined with the harmonies of Guy and Philip, you get a great blend of 3 very distinct voices that work together!
We then have the eldest brother Philip on guitar and its always amazing to see a guitarist so passionate in his playing that its almost like he is immersed into his own little world! He is a great musician and, even though I've only seen him play acoustically, there is something endearing about watching a guitarist play. What I also love is the use of the keys in this band played by the brother with probably the best hair, both on his head and face, that I've seen since Jay from The Wanted had his long locks. Guy is the final piece of this brother puzzle and gives some of the songs great impact with some bold chords *don't take my musical knowledge for it, why don't you watch yourself?*
The biggest thing is how authentic and down to earth they all are on stage and in person. When I saw them in October, they were having a nice bit of banter on stage, including joking that Simon broke his electric drumset. I also had the joy of meeting them after the show. Not only did they not mind taking two pictures with me because my phone didn't take a good photo, but they also signed the guitar pick of theirs that I got at the end of the show.
So that's my first ever 'Ones to Watch' and what a way to start! You should definitely follow all these guys on their social media (which I'll link at the bottom of the page) and check them out on YouTube and Spotify.

The one thing that also stands out for me is the chemistry between the three of them. Being brothers has obviously worked in their favour because it makes their stage presence seem so effortless and natural which allows you to feel at ease whilst watching them perform. They also manage to connect amazingly with the audience and always throw in covers that they know will get people to join in even if they hadn't heard of the band before hand!

As well as being amazing live, their recorded stuff is as authentic and pure. I think their tracks are very Lawson-esque, meaning that they are great lyrical songs that are heavily driven by different instruments. I think some of my favourite tracks are off their 2016 EP Harbour Lights and they are; Spark, We Are One and Without You. I think all of these songs have very similar soothing vibes and always put me at ease if I'm ever feeling a bit stressed *because doing a history degree does that to you*. Simon's vocals really stand out as something special but, when they are intertwined with the different instruments, something magical is made. Also, their song Delilah which they sang at Lawson is very catchy almost has a Plain White T's vibe (even though it's nothing like Hey There Delilah) - there songs are very diverse and there will be a song for everyone!

So, they've already supported Lawson, played on the Main Stage of the Gibraltar Music Festival and headlined by Stereophonics. I guess that means that the world is their oyster and there are no limits to how far these guys can go! They've already said that great things are to come so trust me when I say that Frontiers are going to be huge!
