It's Beginning to Look a lot like Christmas!

Hey Guys,

After the success of the last post about the band Frontiers, it's time to keep the momentum up and get going with something different again... I mean it must be obvious, from the title, what this post is about. I write a music blog and it's Christmas (which is my favourite time of the year) so let's talk about Christmas songs!

I could go very cliche and write about all of the classic songs like Fairytale of New York or Do They Know it's Christmas. But, I mean everyone knows about these songs and honestly, I think it's time that we bring out some new stuff or like give some new artists a time to shine - although, I will never so no to a bit of Buble!

So welcome too.... MY TOP 5 CHRISTMAS SONGS/COVERS... in no specific order! Give the icon's a click to give them a listen!

1. Rixton - Have Yourself a Very Merry Christmas
I always go to this song straight away as soon as my calendar reads 1st December because it is the epitome of what I think Christmas is: fun, crazy and unpredictable. It's a great take on a Christmas classic and the fact that lead singer Jake doesn't seem to know that Charley, Danny and Lewi are going to make an appearance makes it even funnier. That paired with the 4 part harmony makes for an amazing listen when you want some classic Christmas with a twist.

2. Dalton Rapattoni - Happy Christmas
One of my all time favourite artists Dalton Rapattoni has just released his own take on this well loved Christmas song and I couldn't do a top 5 in terms of music without him! This is a very calming version of the song and makes me feel all warm inside as I hear his voice merged with a beautiful piano melody and some sort of jingle bell percussion. It even has a slightly darker and more mysterious tone than the original and is definitely what I call changing up a classic song.

3. Michael Buble and Idina Menzel - Baby It's Cold Outside
What is a list of Christmas songs without King Buble? This song contains two of the strongest voices in all of the music industry and, when you put them together, it creates pure bliss. They've modernised a beautiful and romantic song and put an adorably cheeky twist on in especially with the video and the two little kids. It is literally Christmas heaven as you can belt out the words but also you want to sway around, as if you're drunk, to the relaxing music. The whole song is pure magic and an amazing idea because who doesn't want the Queen of Musicals and the King of Swing together?

4. IM5 - Holiday Mashup 2012
I can't have a Christmas song list without some pure boyband so here it is! You'll see Dalton here again and he was part of IM5 until 2014 when he left, unfortunately the band split up earlier in the year. Anyway on a more positive not, this medley of Christmas songs like Hark the Herald Angels, White Christmas and Feliz Navidad makes me smile whenever I listen to it. Like the Rixton song, it's cheeky and wacky as the Will, Cole, Dana, Gabe and Dalton try to find their Christmas love with no luck. It's carefree, youthful and catchy so it will always be one of my favourite ever Christmas tracks to listen too in December (and sometimes August)

5. Kelly Clarkson - Underneath the Tree
I think Kelly Clarkson is one of the most talented female artists in the world and she seems able to sing all types of genre's from ballads to slightly rocky tracks and now Christmas songs. Underneath the Tree is a classic feel good original and is full of the glitz and glamour that you expect from Christmas, even if the reality is really different. It's an upbeat and diva-esque song that epitomises the meaning of Christmas songs. I mean it has beautiful dresses, Christmas tree's and snow so why wouldn't you listen to it?

So, that's my 2016 top 5 Christmas songs but that doesn't mean that I don't love that classic Christmas feeling with the good ol' classics. But let's try something new and I really hope that we get some new Christmas stuff instead of re-releases of old songs.

So let me know what your go to song is when the calendar hits December! And, until next time - keep listening... wait that's just a rip off of the Strictly catchphrase...oops

Bye for Now
xx
