Niall Horan - Flicker Album Review (Delxue)

Hi guys,

Aren't you all lucky getting two music posts in two days! I'm even impressed with myself. So lil' Niall Horan has finally released his debut album and, as a firm Niall fan since 2010, this was very exciting for me - we all had high expectations for this album and he didn't disappoint us with his debut album Flicker
The album is an all-round beautiful album to listen too and I can't praise Niall enough for giving us such an amazing set of songs! It may not be the most upbeat album but all of the songs have a purpose and is so easy to listen to because of its calm and soft tone throughout! The one word I can us to describe it is breathtaking!

The album starts with On The Loose which is slightly more upbeat than the rest of the songs which made it a perfect start to the album. It really set the mood up for the entire album and showed what we could expect from Niall which included an amazing use of his vocal range and songs with heart and soul!

The album compromises of some really emotional songs with themes that really are really easy to relate to, no matter who you are. Some of the well-known songs that he's already released like This Town and Too Much To Ask are some of my favourite tracks on the entire album for this reason. They have a really simple guitar melody but are lyrically so deep and romantic that I just want to take into bed with you and snuggle like a duvet. I could even imagine dancing to This Town as my first dance at my wedding or walking down the aisle to it. These two songs along with tracks like Paper Houses *that has one of my favourite first lines and has so many layers and such depth* and title track Flicker really shows how mature Niall is as a song-writer and how aware he is of people's emotions!

Not to say that there weren't some more upbeat songs that were nice changes from the more subdued song! On My Own,The Tide and obviously Slow Hands *which was less ubpeat but more gritty*, are still nice and simple but have slight aspects that completely change the tone and mood of the song. On My Own has this really nice Irish jig melody too it that just makes you want to get up and dance, sort of like Act My Age by One Direction. Also, the addition of the duet with Maren Morris on Seeing Blind was a really nice addition to the album because the two voices blended so nicely together and it didn't feel like they were battling for dominance.

The whole album is so simple, from the melodies to the instruments, yet so effective. He's really shown that you don't need all this fancy production to release album of such a high standard! The songs have allowed Niall's voice to be shown in the best light and I love seeing how his voice has developed since 2010! I can't wait to see what Nialler pulls out of the hat next, I just know know that it'll be as brilliant as this and stick the the true essence of Niall. I am so proud of him and am just waiting for his solo career to climb from strength to strength!

So that's my review of Flicker, do you feel the same or do you have different opinions? Let me know!

Until next time my musical chums,

Bye for Now
xx
