The Maine @ Electric Ballroom
Hi guys,
Another week, another concert *lucky me* This week was something new for me because this is the first time I've ever gone to a concert where I didn't actually know much about the band to start with. Last night, I went to see the band The Maine from Arizona with my friend Molly and I think they may have just gained a new fan!
We arrived pretty early and, even though it was freezing, it was worth it once we got into the warmth of Electric Ballroom! Also, another thing that made the cold worth it was the fact that managed to get to the barrier at the front - this is something that has never actually happened to me before. I bet you can imagine how excited my friend was when she realised how close we would be to one of her favourite bands. The venue itself is alright but I don't think I liked it as much as the Forum or some of the Manchester venues - there's nothing unique about it except the location and history!
The support acts were not as good as last week but they did try and get the crowd pumped: even though I think they were just ready for the band to come on. Once The Maine actually got on stage, I literally got sucked in with the rest of the fans and I felt as if I'd belonged there and was not just someone who went along with a friend.
I think the biggest thing that I noticed about The Maine was the crowd interaction throughout. Lead singer John O'Callaghan is the dream front man and made every single person in the crowd feel like they were actually part of the show. He was talking to the crowd and interacting with them in so many ways. He waved at my friend and called a guy called Olly up and got him to sing with him, as well as giving him a cheeky kiss. It felt as if there was a direct connection and that he valued every single person who had come out.
Even though the crowd/band connection was amazing, I don't want to forget that the main thing you go to a concert for and that's the music itself. They definitely didn't lack in that department either. Their music is so feel good and energetic that you can't help but jump along to every single song that was played. Because I don't really know the songs, I can't tell you which were my favourite but I can say that John's vocals were pretty flawless throughout. He has such a special quality about his voice because it's so deep and velvety which makes it so easy to listen to and feel immersed in. There wasn't a time where I felt myself wanting to leave or for them to finish a song because they were all so diverse that I never got bored.
As well as the songs and interaction, the energy and performance brought by all members of the band was second to none! When I watched them, it almost felt as if they were playing to a sold out stadium because they were jumping across the stage and showing how much passion they had for music. It almost reminded me of watching Brendan Urie and Panic at the Disco perform because it was high energy, sometimes really cute and sometimes a wee bit sexy! It was an amalgamation of everything I love to see in a performer and really made the show even better.
So, overall it was an amazing night and I was so happy that I got dragged along because it was definitely a night to remember. It was so nice to be at such a calm concert where everyone is just happy to be there and so immersed in the moment. The Maine are definitely a band I will be listening to from now and on and I recommend you do too! 4/5 from me (it would have been a 5 if I knew more of the songs).
